Why this is not a ‘Giclee’, and more: FAQ

  • What’s the difference between Spectral Art™ and Giclee?

There’s a big difference between the two processes – ‘Giclee’ prints are produced using standard inkjet technology – literally ‘squirting’ ink onto the material with little to no control. It is a straight forward digital process – taking the image input and outputting directly to print without any differentiation. As a result, inkjet printing often lacks consistency in colour and detail,  and can result in duller looking images.

Spectral Art™ Technology is a unique and innovative departure from existing artwork technology that works with scientifically precise handling of both image input and output. The artwork is first digitally remastered in a multi-dimensional perspective – that looks at the original subject of the image – whether it is a photograph or artwork. The relationship between both ink and the individual substrate is individually controlled and manipulated- to optimise the final output and ensure each edition is consistent and fully standardised.

  • Will it be a lot more expensive?

Surprisingly – no. We work to provide cost-effective solutions for our customers – to make sure you get the best without needing to compromise.

Bespoke Spectral Analysis™ results can be tailored from an entry-level option to in-depth Detail Views that bring to life every brushstroke on the surface. An entry-level result is a great way to differentiate your artwork editions from Giclee prints, while still being highly affordable. Further in-depth views are especially ideal for conservation and archival uses.
